About us.

Someone asked me “What motivates you to keep doing what you do?” (in regards to cat rescue).

This story right here, is EXACTLY the reason and is by far the most miraculous I have experienced.

I saw a post on Facebook late at night. A critical dying kitten. Covered in fleas, anemic, skin and bones, barely clinging to life. A good Samaritan had picked her up off the side of the road and all ER vets were booked. Thank God, because they would have euthanized her on intake.

This little girl ended up coming to me around 1130 PM. She was basically DOA. She was cold, stiff, no movement, and I could barely find a heartbeat. I knew she wasn’t going to make it within seconds of seeing her. We kept her warm, administered IV fluids, B12, iron, dectrose, and flea meds. There was zero chance. One of our fosters who helped transport her, held her while we waited for her to pass. And hour went by. She was still clinging to life.

We laid her on a heating pad for her to pass comfortably. Those helping (as we had another surprise kitten come in and tended to) left and about 3 hours had passed. I went back in the room to check on her. She was MEOWING! Her little voice drew the attention of Ruby (another foster cat under our care at the time) who desperately wanted to be with her. I obliged. She immediately ran in and laid with her and started grooming her. Within minutes the little kitten was up on her feet, WALKING!

This little girl, now named Little Jo (short for Jolleen is a literal miracle. We cried happy tears. Cat rescue is not all sunshine and roses and comes with our fair share of witnessing death and heartbreak. To see something of this nature was just unreal. This cat was as close to death as you can get and defied ALL ODDS.

Joleen’s story and all of our foster kitties stories are why we do what we do. It is all about the cats and making sure they are loved, cared for, and safe. Small Town Cat Rescue provides services for community cat colonies, TNR, emergency cases, strays and more. The rescue is run as a foster home-based rescue for now until we are able to finance a cat sanctuary property. If you are interested in donating specifically to the cat sanctuary project, please make note with your donation that it should be directed to that project.

“We are so blessed here at STCR. We could not exist without our supporters. We are only 1 1/2 years into this and it’s incredible to see the growth that has occurred in such a short period of time.

I have said it a million times. This is really a community rescue. YOU are the backbone. I thank you all endlessly. Truly, from the bottom of my heart.” – Erica Fromme, Founder and Director of Small Town Cat Rescue Non Profit 501(c)3
